PASADENA, Calif. (July 1, 2016) – A record 123 Beavers qualified for Academic All-SCIAC honors over the 2015-16 academic year.
Over two-thirds of all Caltech student-athletes earned credentials for the list, although only 104 were officially recognized as men's and women's fencing do not compete in the SCIAC. More than 80 percent of student-athletes in five programs reached the threshhold, along with more than half of the student-athletes in 13 of 15 programs (combining each gender of cross country and track & field). Men's fencing was the only team to have over 90 percent of its roster qualify for recognition, with volleyball, women's tennis, men's swimming & diving and men's tennis close behind.
This marked the first year in which freshmen and transfer students were eligible for the last, although this year's group of 80 upperclassmen still would have outpaced last year's total of 75, which also did not count multi-sport student-athletes just once.
To be eligible, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.4 cumulative grade-point average at the current institution and have completed one full calendar year at the current institution.
