Beavers Start SCIAC Play Against National Ranked Pomona-Pitzer

The Caltech baseball team started SCIAC play on Friday afternoon with a home game against 18th ranked Pomona-Pitzer. The weekend series continues on Saturday with a doubleheader in Claremont.

Friday (Feb. 11, 2011)

Pomona-Pitzer 10, Caltech 0 (7 Innings)

Erik Muzner led the Sagehens attack with a 3-for-5 effort at the plate while scoring two runs. Jackson Badger added two hits and three RBI's for the visitors. Leo Rosetti and Stuart Gano combined to strike out eight hitters while walking three.

The Beavers offense spread around three hits between Daniel Sexton, Albie Lavin and Nick Robertson.

Rob Rosenberg went six-innings on the mount giving up five hits and three earned runs while striking out four.

Saturday (Feb. 12, 2011)

Pomona-Pitzer 29, Caltech 1 (7 Innings)

A 24-hit effort paced the Sagehens in the first game of the doubleheader. Timothy Novom and Teddy Bingham each had a team high four hits for the home squad.

David Carrega produced a two-hit performance for the Beavers.

Pomona-Pitzer 14, Caltech 4 (7 Innings)

In the second game of the doubleheader Caltech was down just 4-2 after the top of third. However, the Sagehens scored six runs in the bottom half of the evening to put any hopes of comeback away.

Daniel Sexton had a two-hit afternoon while scoring two runs while Nick Robertson went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
