Beavers Fall In Three Tight Games

Caltech dropped three tight SCIAC baseball games to Occidental during their weekend set.

Game One - Occidental 13, Caltech 8 (Boxscore)

In a game that was played mostly in rain Occidental scored the first nine runs of the game and held on late. With The Tigers holding a 13-1 lead after five innings, the Beavers responded with four runs in the sixth and three in the seventh but couldn't draw closer.

Brian Penserini went 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Brendan Sheehan went 2-for-3 with four RBI's.

Game Two - Occidental 9, Caltech 3 (Boxscore)

The Beavers scored the game's first run in the bottom of the third when Sheehan drove home Mason Freedman. However the Tiger proceeded to claw ahead by scoring at least one run over the next five innings en route to the victory.

Sheehan continued his solid series with a 2-for-4 effort while Daniel Sexton put together a two-hit game as well.

Game Three - Occidental 3, Caltech 1 (Boxscore)

The Beavers scored the first run in the first inning when Sexton tripled and Sheehan scored.

Occidental responded with a run in the top of the third. The visitors eventually took the lead for good with a run in the sixth inning before adding an insurance run in the eighth inning. Caltech loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning but Sheehan struck out to end the game.

Albie Lavin threw six innings; giving up just five hits while allowing one earned run and striking out four. Eric Schroop finished the game with three innings of relief work.
