La Verne Takes Game One of Weekend Set
PASADENA, CA – A potent La Verne offense put together 25-hits en route to posting an 18-1 victory over Caltech on Friday afternoon in a SCIAC baseball contest.
The Leopards, the two-time defending conference champions, scored runs in five of the seven innings. The big blow in the game came when La Verne sent 19 batters to plate during an 11-run fourth inning.
Eight players had multi-hit games for the Leopards led by Nolan Henley's 4-for-4 effort. Josh Surdo went 3-for-4 with four runs scored and five RBI's while Dylan Leong also posted a three-hit performance while scoring twice and driving home three.
On the mound Kevin Knight went five innings; during which he gave-up three hits and struck out four to earn the win.
Caltech's Brian Penserini went 2-for-4 in posting his second multi-hit game of the season.
The two teams play a doubleheader tomorrow in Claremont, CA with game one's first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m.
