CLAREMONT, CA - The Beavers closed out their three-games weekend SCIAC sets with a pair of games at ClaremontMuddScripps on Saturday.
The Stags came out on top in both games by 7-3 and 13-0 outcomes.
Game 1 - CMS 7, Caltech 3 (Box Score)
The Stags jumped out a 3-0 lead after the first three innings but Caltech clawed back with a pair of runs in the top half of the fourth inning. Albie Lavin hit and RBI groundout to third base that scored Thomas Kwok. Daniel Chou scored a few pitches later as he crossed the plate on a base ball.
An Evan Opperman single scored John Rizzo as ClaremontMuddScripps got their lead to 4-2 after the fourth inning. The scoreboard remain unchanged until the bottom of the seventh when three more Stags runs upped their advantage to 7-2.
Caltech put the first two runners on base to start the eighth inning as John Galden and Jared Reed singled. However, the Kwok hit into a double-play yet Galden was able to cross the plate. With two-out Tim Menninger and Daniel Chou singled but the rally was snuffed out as Samuel Woodman struck out Lavin.
The Beavers weren't able to get a man on base during their final chance as the home grabbed the win.
Menninger led the way for a Caltech with a three-hit effort. On the mound Chou went the distance for the sixth time this year while striking out three.
Scott Witte went 3-for-3 with three runs scored to pace the Stags offense.
Game 2 – CMS 13, Caltech 0 (Box Score)
Andor Kessleman held the Beavers bats in check almost the entire way. The senior struck out nine and didn't allow a runner to reach base until the seventh inning.
Offensively the Stags Jake Witte and Michael Erb each had two hits and scored twice while driving in two and three runs respectively.
Daniel Chou and Albie Lavin each had a hit for the Beavers.
