PASADENA, Calif. (Nov. 12, 2014) – The Caltech baseball team has released its schedule for the 2015 season. The Beavers will host 20 regular season games, including a season-opening doubleheader vs. St. Katherine College on Jan. 31.
Caltech will pick up conference play immediately after the season opener with a three-game series against the University of La Verne on Friday, Feb. 13 and Saturday, Feb. 14 (DH). The Beavers will welcome Bates College from Maine on Feb. 16 before three straight SCIAC series, beginning with rival Occidental College.
The Beavers will face last year's top two teams in the SCIAC, Cal Lutheran and Chapman University, back-to-back the following two weekends. Cal Lu claimed its second straight SCIAC title while earning national rankings of No. 5 (Collegiate Baseball) and No. 14 (NCBWA/D3baseball.com). Runner-up Chapman ranked sixth in the West region as both teams posted 30-win seasons.
Six non-conference games break up the SCIAC slate over the next three weeks. Drew University flies in from New Jersey for a doubleheader on Mar. 12, which the Beavers will follow with a three-game series against neighboring Providence Christian College. Institute rival MIT, which earned a No. 6 ranking in the New England region last year, comes to town for a single game on Mar. 26.
SCIAC play fills out the final four weekends as Caltech is set to face Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges Mar. 27-28, the University of Redlands Apr. 3-4, Whittier College Apr. 10-11 and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges Apr. 17-18. The Beavers will then be matched up in SCIAC Pool Play for the final four games of the regular season on Apr. 22, 25, 26 and 28, with the Postseason Tournament set for May 1-3.
