PASADENA (Apr. 17, 2017) – Senior baseball player Kai Kirk (San Jose, Calif. / St. Paul's (Wesleyan Univ.)) has been named SCIAC Athlete of the Week, the first baseball player of the season to win the honor.
Kirk found himself at the center of the Caltech's second historic in what has been one of the program's greatest seasons in recent memory. The senior drove in the tying run and came around to score the go-ahead in the Beavers' 13-12 win at Whittier College on Saturday. Kirk also tripled earlier in the game to knock in two runs. The fact that he pitched earlier in the day and held the Poets to just two runs over eight innings only adds to the impressiveness of his feats with the bat.
Kirk joins eight other Beavers as athletes of the earn the distinction of SCIAC Athlete of the Week and is the fifth Beaver to to be recognized this spring.
Head Coach Matthew Mark will lead Kirk and the rest of the Beavers into their final SCIAC series of the season when they travel to California Lutheran University for a 3 p.m. game on Friday, Apr. 21.
