The 2008 season will mark John D'Auria's 27th season with the Caltech baseball program, including his 20th as head coach of the Beaver program. He spent seven seasons as assistant coach (1983-89) before taking over the head coaching position in 1990.

During his 27 years, a Caltech baseball player has earned either first- or second-team or honorable mention All-SCIAC 28 times including Greg Fricke, who earned first-team honors at shortstop, becoming the first Caltech player to earn first-team accolades since catcher Jim Hamrick in 1986. In addition to his coaching duties, D'Auria also teaches physical education classes including golf, volleyball, and baseball, as well as overseeing the intramural sport programs at Caltech.

As a player, D'Auria spent two seasons in the Detroit Tigers minor league system as a pitcher prior to being drafted by the U.S. Army. Following his stint in the military, D'Auria returned to the Southland to earn a B.S. in Sociology from Cal State Los Angeles in 1974. He later earned a M.S. in Physical Education from Azusa Pacific in 1989.

D'Auria resides in Sierra Madre with his wife, Cathe, and twins Guy and Amy.
