CLAREMONT, CA – A handful of members from the Caltech fencing squad participated at the IFCSC individual championships on Saturday at Pomona College.
Eugene Vinitsky finished third in the men's foil. He posted five victories in the in the pool round then won his round of eight match-up over Andrew Tsai of UCLA. He lost in the semifinals to Joseph Schenkel of UCSD.
During the men's saber competition Harrison Miller had three victories in the pool round and advanced to the field of 16. After winning his opening bout in the elimination round, he fell in the quarterfinals to Drew Dickinson of UCSD.
Katie Fisher advanced to the elimination round after posting a victory in the pool bouts. Fisher won her initial bout against Sophia Soprani from the Claremont College but fell in the round of eight.
The league put together a novice event for individuals who have two are less years of experience. In that event Caltech put four people in the top five.
Miller won the men's saber competition while teammates Chris Couste and August Nanz finished in third and fifth respectively.
In the men's foil novice event Anup Kishore finished in the runner-up position as he fell in a tight bout with Daniel Zhene of UCLA.
The final IFCSC event is Feb. 23 at UC Irvine.
