PASADENA, CA – This Saturday, March 8 Caltech is hosting the NCAA Fencing West Regional at the Braun Gym. Team competitors are Air Force, Caltech, Stanford and UC San Diego.
This tournament will determine the region's top fencers and is used for selection to the NCAA National Championship.
The event format is one large pool that will determine a champion for each weapon. The winner of each weapon gets an automatic berth into the NCAA Championships, hosted by Ohio State, which begins March 20 in Columbus, OH.
The event begins at 9:00 a.m. and is expected to wrap-up around 4:00 p.m.

9:30 a.m. – Women's Saber

There is no cost to attend the event. During the lunch break, the Caltech SAAC is sponsoring a free lunch of skewers and kebabs in front of the athletic center until the food is gone.
Several defending champions return to defend their regional title from last season. Jake Harbour (Stanford) won the epee title last season while teammate Alexander Massialas captured the foil title. Daniel Wolfson, also from Stanford, also returns to keep his reign on the saber title.
On the women's side Stanford's Avery Youngblood brought home the women's saber to Palo Alto last year and is looking to do so again in 2014. In epee Francesca Bassa (Stanford) is looking to reclaim the crown.
