Michael D'Asaro Jr. is an American sabre fencer. A native of
Brooklyn, New York, he is the son of legendary fencer/coach Michael
D'Asaro Sr. Before retiring from competition in 1997, Michael was a
member of the 1996 US Olympic Men’s Sabre Team, 1995 US Pan
American Men’s Sabre team (earning a gold medal), 1984 Junior
World Team, 1987 World University Games Team, and multiple World
Championship and World Cup Teams.
During his 22 years on the US National Circuit he has made numerous
North American Cup and US National finals. Among his major
achievements are a Silver Medal at the 1996 Nationals
Championships, Gold medal NAC #2 in 1995, Gold medal 1984 Junior
Nationals, and Gold Medal 1985 Junior Olympics. Other notable
results are Western Collegiate Sabre Champion, Olympic Festival
Champion, and 4 National Sabre Team Gold Medals.
Currently, he coaches many sabre, epee and foil fencers, both men
and women, and is the National Coach for the US Wheelchair Fencing
Team. He teaches at fortune fencing. He is also one of the top
rated referees in the United States and serves on the Board of
Directors as an Athlete's Representative of the United States
Fencing Association, the sport's national governing body.
Michael began at Caltech in 2006-07 as an assistant coach., the
2008-09 is his second season as Head Men's and Women's Fencing
Coach.
CARLA CORBIT - 2008-09 is the first year for Carla
Corbit as the men's and women's fencing team's assistant
coach. Carla brings a wealth of international fencing
experience to Caltech. She also serves as Club Manager for
the Beverly Hills Fencing Club as well as Head Fencing Coach at
Brentwood High School in Brentwood, CA.
