PASADENA, Calif. (Feb. 18, 2015) - Caltech men's basketball junior Kc Emezie (Waxhaw, N.C. / Marvin Ridge) has been named the BennettRank D3 Men's Basketball co-Stud of the Week for Week 13.
Emezie garnered a record number of votes, pulling in over 2,000 to narrowly edge out Eureka College's Seth Wickert, but with no official closing deadline, both were awarded the honor in what was BennettRank's tightest and by far the most popular vote of the season. In the future, the poll will officially close on Tuesday nights at midnight PST. Emezie is the third straight SCIAC player to pull in the Stud of the Week award, following Cal Lutheran's Arik Smith for Week 12 and Occidental's Andrew Johnson in Week 11.
Emezie scored nearly half of his Caltech's points in a 49-47 win over the University of Redlands, including the Beavers' final eight, and hit the game-winning shot that snapped a 55-game SCIAC losing streak. The Beavers have since gone on to top Whittier College, 92-77, for back-to-back SCIAC victories, and as Emezie won the award on Tuesday, topped the University of La Verne, 70-69, for a third straight home SCIAC win, marking the most SCIAC wins in a single season since 1960-61, when the Beavers topped four conference foes, and equaling the total number of SCIAC wins over the previous 43 years.
The Beavers will play their final home game of the 2014-15 season as they host Occidental College in the third installment of the 110 Freeway Rivalry at 7:00 p.m following the women's Orange Out and Title IX awareness game at 5:00 p.m.
