Coach Dr. Oliver Eslinger Participates in Hoops for Awareness Charity Game

PASADENA, Calif. – In a change from his usual place on the sideline, Caltech men's basketball head coach Dr. Oliver Eslinger laced up his playing shoes for a "Hoops for Awareness" charity basketball event at Pasadena City College on Feb. 22.

A feeder event for the Southern California Chinese Relay for Life, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament was followed by a 5-on-5 coaches/celebrity vs. Los Angeles County Sheriff Department game to raise cancer awareness in the greater LA/San Gabriel Valley API community, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

Eslinger teamed with former All-Ivy honoree Brogan Berry and Lindsay Louie from Harvard '11, former First Team All-CIF and professional player Rawlston Charles, former New York Giants wide receiver Ramses Barden, the coaches from San Marino High School and Flintridge Prep and "Community" cast member Danny Pudi.  The Sheriff's Department was able to pull out a narrow 77-74 victory in a crowd-pleasing thriller as Berry starred, Charles and Barden threw down some big dunks and Eslinger scored in double digits, including a pair of big three-pointers down the stretch in the second half.
