Andrews Leads at CMS

CLAREMONT, Calif. (Jan. 20, 2018) – Sophomore guard Alec Andrews (Folsom, Calif. / Folsom) led the way for the Caltech men's basketball team in Saturday's SCIAC showdown at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.

The second-year guard played the entire game and scored 16 points and two assists in the defensive struggle of a game. Six of Andrews' points came on free throws. Senior wing David Kawashima (Studio City, Calif. / North Hollywood) joined Andrews in double-figures with 12 points. Seven of his points came at the foul line as the Beavers shot a collective 20-for-29 from the charity stripe. Sophomore forward Ross Carter (Sudbury, Mass. / The Rivers School), meanwhile had a career night on the glass with nine rebounds, eight of which came in the first half.

Both teams succeeded in containing each other for the better part of both halves. The Caltech defense held CMS to under 40-percent shooting from the field and beyond the three-point line. The visitors succeeded in keeping pace by a reasonable margin behind the Stags, but ultimately ran out of time before they could put together a game-defining scoring run.

Head Coach Dr. Oliver Eslinger and the Beavers will next host Whittier College Poets on Wednesday, Jan. 24. Caltech enters that matchup having won its last three meetings against Whittier, its most recent an 86-82 triumph in Whittier four day before Christmas.
