REDLANDS, Calif. (Jan. 14, 2019) – The Caltech defense had another nice game on Monday evening when the men's basketball team took on the University of Redlands on the road, holding the Bulldogs to below their season scoring average.

The defensive numbers showed strongest in the shooting percentages, with the Beavers actually outshooting the Bulldogs by a narrow margin. Redlands shot just 23-percent from three and four of its five three-pointers came from one player. Meanwhile, Caltech hit eight three-pointers collectively with no one player having more than two. Sophomore guard Marcus Gee (Santa Monica, Calif. / Santa Monica) was one of them, and scored 12 points to go with seven rebounds, once again illustrating his season-long improvements on the glass. Gee is currently positioned as Caltech's leading scorer, averaging 12.9 points per game. Freshman guard Noah Barnes (Springfield, Va. / Jefferson) also came down with seven rebounds.

Caltech at one point led Redlands by four points with 15 minutes to go in regulation. Even after the Bulldogs went on a convincing run down the stretch, the Beavers battled back and got the deficit within single-digits before time expired with two consecutive baskets. Caltech will have another crack at Redlands back in Pasadena when the Bulldogs come to town on Saturday, Feb. 16, the final home game of the season.

Head Coach Dr. Oliver Eslinger and the Beavers will be back on the road this Wednesday, Jan. 16 when they travel to Chapman University for a 7 p.m. clash.
