Zhu Bursts Onto Scene at Bladerunner

LA JOLLA, Calif. (Nov. 6, 2017) – Freshman Zimo Zhu (Buffalo Grove, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) had an excellent debut at the senior-level BladeRunner ROC, placing third in a field of 90 épeé fencers this past weekend. Zhu finished only behind fencers from the University of California, San Diego and East Bay Fencers Gym. He also went undefeated in the first round of pool play, earning a No. 1 seed in the knockout round of the tournament. Zhu, in fact, did not drop a single match until succumbing to the eventual champion in the semi-final round. Senior Ethan Lo (Palo Alto, Calif. / Palo Alto) joined Zhu in the knockout round after going five-for-six in pool play to earn the 13th-seed and ultimately a top-20 finish in his own right.

A third Beaver, freshman Andrew Chan (Denver, Col. / Littleton), also competed in the junior men's foil event.

Head Coach Carla Corbit and the Beavers return to competition after the New Year at the Western Invitational, hosted by Stanford University.
