Nov 19, 2008

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer coaches have voted Caltech's Tyler Volkoff to the 2nd Team All-SCIAC Team in Men's Soccer for 2008-09.  Tyler, a junior from Kerman, CA (Kerman HS) has had an outstanding season with the Beavers winding up the year as the most prolific scorer in the history of the program with 8 goals on the season.    Tyler was names SCIAC Male Athlete of the Week for October 29th.

Volkoff had his most memorable moment of the season when he shot the winning goal against Cal Lutheran. At the 89:36 minute mark (just 24 seconds remaining) Caltech sophomore, Grayson Chadwick executed a great pass to Volkoff who scored a spectacular goal striking the ball off of the far post  and bouncing back into the opposite side of the net for goal number 6 on the 2008 season for Volkoff.  "Tyler is by far the most dangerous forward that I have coached is seven years at Caltech" commented Coach Rolando Uribe. "I am very proud of all the soccer players on this year's Caltech Soccer Team, they have not given up all year playing great soccer!".

Tyler is biology major and plans to pursue a Ph.D.; his other extracurricular activities include the chemistry club, research and ice skating.

GO TECH!!!
