WHITTIER, CA - Playing their first of four straight road SCIAC contests, the Caltech men's soccer team fell to Whittier 5-0 on Saturday evening.
The Poets got on the board in the 19th minute when Gregorio Giorgi scored on a crossing pass from Dylan Fortin. The home team continued to pressure the back lines of the Beavers defense but couldn't break through until the 39th minute when Francis Maxwell made the score 2-0.
With the score 3-0 the Beavers had a flurry of chances early in the second half, a corner kick into the box by Marec Serlin eventually led to an Adam Ball shot that went wide. In the 60th minute Alec Sands put a shot on a goal but Poet goalie Jorge Rivas made the save.
In the 70th minute Evren Gokcen put a shot on goal for the Beavers but Rivas made the save to keep the score at a three-goal spread.
Two goals late in the contest rounded out the scoring as Gary Kelman (86th minute) and Luis Amaya (89th minute) found the back of the net.
The Beavers continue their second half of SCIAC play with a game at ClaremontMuddScripps on Wednesday evening.
