PASADENA, Calif. (Oct. 19, 2016) – A strong first half did not carry over to the second as Caltech men's soccer team fell to SCIAC rival Occidental College, 6-0, despite a career-high 16 saves by senior J.D. Feist (Richardson, Texas / Jesuit Coll. Prep) on Wednesday afternoon.
Caltech was locked in to begin the game and held strong on the defensive end with an aggressive Oxy front line attacking quickly from the outset. In the 16th minute, the Beavers were called for a handball in the box, resulting in a penalty kick for the Tigers. Elijah Remy would convert to put the visitors up 1-0 and minutes later, after a flurry of saves by Feist, Oxy notched a second goal to make it 2-0. The Beavers defense would hold the Tigers in check for the remainder of the half.
Caltech started the second half aggressive and quickly pushed the ball forward, with sophomore Jack Banaszak (Bethesda, Md. / Bethesda Chevy-Chase) ripping a shot a mere 13 seconds into play. Banaszak put another shot on goal minutes later after an Oxy foul and yellow card, but from the 54'th minute on it was all Oxy as the Tigers would score four times. Feist was again impressive in goal, making a career-high with 16 saves.
Head Coach Phil Murray and the Beavers will travel to Whittier College (3-11-1, 2-10-1) on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 11 a.m.
