LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (Oct. 31, 2017) – Sophomore forward Kevin Yu (Park Ridge, N.J. / Park Ridge) has been named to the Second Team All-SCIAC for men's soccer, as voted on by the conference's coaches.
"I am delighted for Kevin to get this recognition from the conference coaches," Head Coach Phil Murray said. "This league is full of quality players and for Kevin to get the nod, it speaks volumes for the ability he has. Despite a tough season with limited rewards in the form of points, he has been a constant positive threat, a tireless leader who gives nothing less than his all, and fully deserves to receive this award."
Yu acted as Caltech's top offensive option and matched his total from his freshman campaign with two goals. He also led the team in shots with 47 total shots and 25 shots on goal. Both numbers more than quadruple last year's totals in a year in which the men's soccer program took a step forward. He also went 1-for-2 on penalty kick tries, with his lone penalty kick goal helping the Beavers push visiting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges to overtime last September.
"I have had countless conversations with my colleagues about the impact he has on our program in his first 2 years," Murray said. "I know he has the hunger and desire to continue to work for the team, to lead by example every day in training and competitions, as we strive to reach our team goals."
Yu joins freshman goalkeeper Joe Como (Glen Cove, N.Y. / Friends Acad.), the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year, as honorees in the conference's yearly award selections.
