PASADENA, Calif. (Oct. 1, 2015) – The Caltech men's tennis team has announced its schedule for the 2016 season, which will include nine home matches and a regional weekend trip to Texas.
The Beavers will open the season with a three-match home stand beginning Sunday, Jan. 31 as they host the first of two straight Northwest Conference opponents in Linfield College at 11 a.m., with the University of Puget Sound arriving two weeks later on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 11 a.m.
SCIAC play begins quickly with Caltech welcoming Cal Lutheran University on Friday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. and heading to national champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Sunday, Mar. 6, with a road match at Biola University in between on Saturday, Feb. 27.
The Beavers will enjoy a real treat in their next match against Wabash College from Indiana, with the teams scheduled to square off at the famed Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Wednesday, Mar. 9 at 1 p.m.
After a 10-day break from competition, another pair of regional foes head to Pasadena. Southwestern University and Pacific University will make trips from Texas and Oregon, respectively, for matches on Saturday, Mar. 19 and Monday, Mar. 21, both at 11 a.m. Caltech also welcomes St. Lawrence University, hailing from Canton, N.Y., on Tuesday, Mar. 22 at 11 a.m.
Head Coach Mandy Gamble has set up a three-match swing through Texas from Thursday-Saturday, Mar. 24-26, when the Beavers will face Texas Lutheran University, The University of Texas-Tyler and LeTourneau University on consecutive days.
The Beavers return to Pasadena for their penultimate home match on Thursday, Mar. 31 as they host Pacific Lutheran University at 4 p.m. in their final non-conference match of the season. Caltech picked up a 6-3 victory in last year's matchup, with their top four players combining to sweep #1 and 2 doubles and #1-4 singles.
Caltech hits the stretch run with road matches at Occidental College and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday, Apr. 2 and 9, respectively, followed by the Senior Day match against Chapman University on Friday, Apr. 15 at 2 p.m. Away matches at the University of Redlands and Whittier College on Saturday, Apr. 16 and 30 bookend the esteemed Ojai Valley Tournament, running from Friday-Sunday, Apr. 22-24.
The Beavers close out the season at the SCIAC Championships, hosted by CMS, on Friday and Saturday, May 6-7.
The entire squad is set to return from last season after several Beavers wrote their names in the record book. The twins, rising juniors Sathwick Pathireddy (Irvine, Calif. / Whitney) and Ruthwick Pathireddy (Irvine, Calif. / Whitney) set a new single-season mark for doubles wins as a pairing (11) and shattered the career record with their 19th together. Junior Morgan Lebby (Laguna Beach, Calif. / Laguna Beach) and Sathwick Pathireddy won their 20thand 18th career singles matches, respectively, to rank fifth and sixth on the all-time list, while senior Rushikesh Joshi (Sunnyvale, Calif. / Archbishop Mitty)/Lebby also surpassed the previous career doubles record of 14, winning their 16th career match.
