Men’s Tennis Lands First Nationally Ranked Class

MARIETTA, Ga. (June 13, 2016) – Caltech men's tennis has landed its first-ever nationally ranked recruiting class at No. 19 in all of Division III, according to the annual rankings at tennisrecruiting.net.

TRN Release

Head Coach Mandy Gamble is set to welcome her second straight highest-rated class in program history, including Caltech's first pair of three-star recruits in Miha Valencic and KarthikPraveen Nair.  A two-star, Connor Soohoo, and one unrated prospect, Tine Valencic – the twin brother of the Beavers' top-ranked recruit – round out the incoming group of four.

The rankings are based on prospects ratings through the website in addition to input from various coaches, Division III tennis enthusiasts and insiders.  Caltech is one of three SCIAC programs to be ranked this year, just four spots behind national No. 18 University of Redlands and third-rated No. 6 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.

The Beavers finished the season with an even 10-10 record, the program's most wins since 2000 and the first time Caltech has finished at or above .500 since 1994.  The squad also recorded the program's first win over a nationally ranked opponent and earned its first-ever national ranking while tying for fourth place in the SCIAC regular season, which marked the team's best standing since 1996.
