PASADENA (Apr. 22, 2017) – Freshman Tine Valencic (Colleyville, Texas / Grapevine) earned one of two singles wins for the Caltech men's tennis team in Satruday's Senior Day clash with SCIAC foe No. 37 Whittier College.
Valencic, who has played mostly doubles this season with his brother Miha Valencic (Colleyville, Texas / Grapevine), answered the bell in the #6 singles spot and won his match, 6-4, 6-2. Sophomore Zixiao Li (Coppell, Texas / Coppell) also won his singles match following a Whittier retirement early in the second set.
Seniors Ruthwick Pathireddy (Cerritos, Calif. / Whitney), Ramsathwick Pathireddy (Irvine, Calif. / Whitney) and Morgan Lebby (Laguna Beach, Calif. / Laguna Beach) received recognition prior to the match for their final regular season match with the team. Ruthwick responded at #1 singles by nearly taking the first set from Whittier's Andrew You, who is ranked eighth in the West region, before ultimately falling 7-5, 6-3.
Head Coach Mandy Gamble and the Beavers will next participate in the Ojai Valley Tournament, which is set to begin this Friday Apr. 28 at the Pierpoint Racquet Club in Ventura, Calif.
