Early Goals Lead CMS Past Caltech

PASADENA, Calif. –  Claremont-Muddscripps scored the first five goals of the game and rode that early momentum to a 20-7 win over Caltech in a SCIAC men's water polo match-up on Wednesday afternoon at the Braun Pool.

The Staggs (12-11, 4-2) spread the scoring around as 12 different players posted a goal. Leading the way was Daniel Polyakov who scored four while Jonah Chodosh also added a hat trick by finding the back of the net on three occasions.

Down 10-3 with 5:07 left in the second quarter, Caltech (0-19, 0-6) battled back by scoring consecutive goals to cut their deficit to 10-5 with 3:30 remaining until halftime. However, CMS scored the final three goals of the first half in taking a 13-5 advantage at the intermission.

CMS continued to push their lead and eventually got their advantage to as large as 11 when Jacob Roth scored his second goal of the game with 5:15 left in the final quarter which gave the Staggs a 17-6 lead. A goal by team's leading scoring Jack Blackwood stop the CMS scoring spree but that was the final goal for the home squad.

Adam Kahn posted a personal season best five goals by notching two goals respectively in the first and second quarter before adding another in the third.

Caltech plays their final home match of the season on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. against Whittier.
