PASADENA, Calif. – In the final game of the 2010 season, Whittier scored the first nine goals of the game en route to a 19-4 win over Caltech Saturday morning in men's water polo action at the Braun Pool.
Down 9-0, Caltech (0-20, 0-7) posted their first goal when Jack Blackwood found the back of the net with 2:26 left until intermission. The Poets added one more before the halftime buzzer as they took a 10-1 after the first 16 minutes of action.
Four of the six third quarter goals were scored by Whittier (11-16, 2-5) as the visitors took a 14-3 edge heading into the final period. The Poets outscored the Beavers 5-1 in the final period but the lone Caltech goal was scored by the senior Wu on a five-meter shot with 3:18 left in the game.
Jared Barrientes had a team high five goals to pace the Poets offense.
Thomas Heavey made four saves in goal for the home squad.
Blackwood scored two goals for the Beavers while Adam Kahn and Wu chipped in one each.
