Pasadena, Calif. (Oct. 7, 2016) – Senior Chris Bradley (Half Moon Bay, Calif. / Junipero Serra) scored all five Beavers goals in the first home Caltech men's water polo match of the season.
Division I Fordham University would record a 21-5 victory, but the Beavers showed some fight at various points throughout the game. The Rams opened the match strong, scoring the first four goals before the Beavers responded and closed the first quarter trailing 5-2.
Caltech gave up six goals in the second quarter while Bradley completed his hat trick despite facing an 11-4 halftime deficit. The Rams' depth allowed them to continue pushing the pace in the second half, recording a 10-1 edge to seal the win.
Four of Bradley's five goals came on man-up opportunities, while the senior also drew four exclusions. Sophomore Eshan Govil (Redwood City, Calif. / Sacred Heart Prep) dished out two assists while both sophomore Charles Ross (Wexford, Pa. / North Allegheny) and senior Tomas Tussie (Weston, Fla. / Cypress Bay) each drew three exclusions. Sophomore Shaurya Gilani (Chicago, Ill. / Adlai Stevenson) made 14 saves in goal.
Head Coach Jon Bonafede and the Beavers will participate in the four-game Gary Troyer Tournament co-hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges this Friday and Saturday. Caltech squares off against Penn St.-Behrend in the opener at 9:00 a.m. Friday in a rematch of the season opener, which Caltech won, 16-13.
