PASADENA (Oct. 11, 2017) – Three assists from freshman Alex Janosi (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Dexter) helped the Caltech men's water polo team keep pace with visiting Chapman University in Wednesday's SCIAC clash. Janosi, the Beavers' fastest pure swimmer and top option on sprints also had another four-for-four day to give his team an early edge to open each period.
Returning home for the first time since claiming their first SCIAC win since 2001, the Beavers looked unphased by the more experienced Panthers and held their own, trailing by just two goals going into the second period. In fact, Head Coach Jon Bonafede's youthful squad never trailed by more than five goals and maintained a constant presence on the attacking end. Caltech's strongest period came in the final frame when they matched the Panthers with three goals, all of which were scored by three different Beavers. Freshmen Steven Csaposs (Davis, Calif. / Davis), Rahul Arun (Buffalo Grove, Ill. / Adlai E Stevenson), then junior driver Eshan Govil (Redwood City, Calif. / Sacred Heart Prep) all scored in succession. Govil had the most efficient offensive night of the bunch, registering three goals and two assists while drawing one exclusion. Csaposs and Arun each scored twice with Csaposs leading the team with seven shots.
Bonafede and the Beavers will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 14 when they travel to Whittier College for an 11 a.m. game.
