PASADENA (Nov. 11, 2017) – Freshman Steven Csaposs (Davis, Calif. / Davis) left an impression in the Caltech men's water polo team's final game of the 2017-18 season at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday.
Csaposs pelted the Sagehens with four goals and 10 shots on net as the Beavers' leading offensive force. He maintained an aggressive rate of play while keeping his number off the exclusion board and even factored in defensively with three steals. The center capped a stellar rookie season with a team-leading 61 goals, good for a slot among the SCIAC's top-10 goal scorers.
Fellow freshman Alex Janosi (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Dexter) supported Csaposs with a final 4-for-4 sprint day. He also bagged one assist and another freshman, Rahul Arun (Buffalo Grove, Ill. / Adlai E Stevenson) scored two assists and led the Beavers with four steals.
Head Coach Jon Bonafede and the Beavers finished the season 8-16 and took a major step forward. Highlights included a victory over Occidental College on Sept. 27, which further led to the Beavers sweeping the Tigers with three total victories on the season in addition to a combined 5-3 record at the Citrus College and Gary Troyer tournaments. Out of the cellar of the SCIAC with a talented core of first-year players, the future looks bright for men's water polo.
