LA VERNE, Calif. (Sept. 29, 2018) – The Caltech men's water polo played arguably its best SCIAC game of 2018 at the University of La Verne and had the game within reach heading into the fourth quarter of Saturday's game.
The Beavers had the Leopards well scouted early on and entered halftime knotted at four goals apiece. Sophomore center Steven Csaposs (Davis, Calif. / Davis) led the visitors with three goals, including two in the first half in addition to the first goal for either team in the third period to put Caltech ahead by one. Classmate Alex Janosi (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Dexter) also had another stellar outing with two goals, one assist, three steals and a perfect day on sprints. A big reason for the Beavers' early success came down to offensive execution and a willingness to get shots off, as merely one shot separated the two clubs. Senior goalie Shaurya Gilani (Chicago, Ill. / Adlai Stevenson) played the entire game for the first time this season and came away with eight saves.
Head Coach Jon Bonafede and the Beavers will compete on the road Wednesday, Oct. 3 at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
