Caltech Swimming & Diving Team Meets Redlands Wave

The Caltech 2009 - 2010 Swim Team is came back from Christmas break and began the winter season by traveling east to go against the University of Redlands.  Caltech is currently enjoying one of the largest swim teams in the school ‘s history, but were missing some key personnel for this meet.  After getting off the bus, we found Redland's swim team is also enjoying a number surge.  Wave after wave of fast Redlands swimmers and divers came out of the locker room.

Some eighty plus Redlands swimmers could not stop diver Justin Johnson from winning both the 1m and 3m events.  His score of 223.50 was just 6.50 points off the NCAA "B" cut for the national championship. Great Job!!

Peter Buhler did a great job on all three of his events.  He swam the 100 Backstroke in 57.66 and placed second by .01 and the 200 Free, popping in a 1:52.66 for another second place.   And he finished off with a super quick 26.51 flat start in the 50 yard Backstroke leg of the 200 Medley Relay.  His swim put Caltech a whopping .61 seconds ahead of the fastest Redlands Relay.  Peggy Allen dove well all day but really shined during the 3m competition and placed a close second 169.50 to Redlands 172.80.  Erin Zampaglione grabbed third on the three meter and a fifth at the lower level.

Freshmen Jack Blackwood had a nice swim during his 200 IM, 2:12.20, and was solid swimming each leg of the Individual Medley grabbing second place.  All Caltech swimmers swam well but the large school of fast Redlands swimmers sealed the Caltech fate with a lopsided lost.

The final score was Women - RED 183 to CIT 43 and Men - RED 186 to CIT 51.  But the 78 degree day made the meet a little more bearable.   Next weekend Caltech will travel to Cal Lu on Saturday and Chapman on Sunday.

GO TECH!!!
