PASADENA, Calif. – The Caltech swimmers and divers posted a host of individual first place efforts on Saturday afternoon in their dual meet with Cal Lutheran.
Cal Lutheran came away with team wins as the Regals (162-75) and Kingsmen (147-86) took the SCIAC dual meet.
Justin Johnson continued his strong senior campaign as he started the meet with a first-place finish in the three-meter diving event. Johnson scored 233.10 points to claim top honors. He also won the one-meter event with a tally of 235.75.
During the swimming portion of the meet, Christian Rivas brought home a first-place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke by recording a time of 1:04.54. It is the second straight dual meet Rivas won the event. The junior placed second in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.94 to tie for top point honors for the Beaver swimmers on the men's side.
Peter Buhler rounded out the first place finishers as he out-touched his competitors in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.63. Buhler placed second in the 100 yard backstroke (58.67) as he scored 13 team points for the Beavers to match Rivas' effort.
Caitlin Regan won both of the individual events she competed in. The senior started her afternoon by claiming the 50 yard freestyle in 26.44. Regan also took first-place in the 100 yard butterfly (1:06.71) as she scored the most team points for the Beavers during the women's meet.
Jacqueline Masehi-Lano set her sixth school record in just her fifth dual meet. The first-year broke the school mark of 2:03.09 during the 200 yard freestyle. The native of San Marino, Calif., swam the event in 2:00.96 to best the mark Diane Pummer set in 2007.
The Beavers will host a four-way meet at the Braun Pool on Sunday afternoon with Chapman, Mills and St. Joseph (NY) beginning at 10:30 a.m.
