REDLANDS, CA - The Caltech swimming and diving team traveled to the University of Redlands on Saturday for a chilly SCIAC match-up.
While the Bulldogs took home the team victories, a handful of
Caltech student-athletes were able to grab first place
The meet opened with Ben Grabowski scoring 174.80 points in the three-meter diving competition to top his competitor from Redlands by just over 15 points. Grabowski took second in the one-meter event by tallying 175.70 points.
During the swimming portion of the men's meet CJ Culpepper gave the Beavers a first-place finish in the 1000 yard freestyle swim. The sophomore won the event with a time of 11:13.84.
Patric Eck scored four team points for Caltech with a second
place finish in the 200 yard freestyle event. The first-year
clocked a 1:54.67; just three ticks away from the top finisher.
Tommy Kwong scored nine total points for Caltech with three third place finishes. He started his meet by clocking a time of 2:19.09 in the 200 yard IM. Four events later he touched the wall in 1:00.85 during the 100 yard butterfly. The senior finished his afternoon with a time of 1:11.09 during the 100 yard butterfly.
Jacqueline Masehi-Lano had the top meet for the female swimmers from Caltech. The sophomore placed first in one event while taking second in two others. Her afternoon started with a runner-up finished in the 200 yard IM (2:17.98). In a tight race she was out touched by just 0.24 seconds. Her competition continued with a first place finish in the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.98) and the second place spot in the 100 yard backstroke (1:08.17).
During the 50 yard freestyle Rachel Moore posted a solid result by placing third in a time of 29.53.
