PASADENA, CA – In their final meet before the SCIAC Championships in two weeks the Caltech swimmers and divers faced-off against La Verne on Saturday afternoon.
The dual meet also marked the end of an era for three Beaver swimmers. Seniors Katie Knister, Iris Liu and Kajta Luxem were competing in their last home meet.
Once again Caltech posted its fair share of first-place finishes.
Jacqueline Masehi-Lano won two races for the fourth time this season during a dual meet. The junior started the day by claiming first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.14. Two races later she posted a time of 1:00.55 to tally a victory in the 100-yard butterfly
Alexandra Illic won her first individual event of the season by winning the 200-yard freestyle race in a personal season best time of 2:14.33.
On the diving board Zofii Kaczmarek tallied season best scores in both the one- and-three meter competitions. The first-year scored 138.85 points on the three-meter board while recording 146.15 points on the one-meter board. All told she scored 18 points for the Beavers.
For the men C.J. Culpepper posted a victory in the 1000-yard freestyle event with a time of 11:03.34.
In the sprint races Patric Eck had two great swims. The sophomore won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.94 which was over .50 seconds faster than the second place finisher. The tide was turned in the 100-yard freestyle as Eck's time of 49.36 was just .16 off from finishing first.
Chris Bradley put together a solid race in the 200-yard freestyle. His time of 1:55.92 was over three seconds faster than his closer competitor as the first-year scored nine team points for finishing first.
Kevin Yu posted a personal season best time of 2:05.20 to win the 200-yard IM by over two seconds. Yu nearly won a second race but came up just short in the 100-yard butterfly. Yu swam a 55.08 which was just .16 behind the top finisher.
The season concludes in two weeks at the league championships. The four-day event starts on Thursday, Feb. 20 with diving while swimming begins the next day Brenda Villa Aquatic Center in Commerce.
