Caltech Athletics : Caltech Track and Field Visits University of Hawaii

The Caltech Track and Field team made the trek across the Pacific Ocean to compete in the 2009 Rainbow Relays hosted by the University of Hawaii at Manoa on Saturday, March 21st. Coach Julie Levesque and company spent their spring break this year on Oahu, HI at UH Manoa. The team fundraised for the trip and truly enjoyed this once in a lifetime experience.

Meet highlights for the Caltech Women were:

Junior, Bettina Chen recorded a PR in the 400m with a time of 63.88 placing here at #5 on the all-time top 10 list.
Sophomore, Deboki Chakarvarti recorded a PR in the 100m with a time of 13.73 placing her at #5 on the all-time top 10 list.
Sophomore, Stephanie Wuerth recorded a PR in the 3000m steeple- chase with a time of 12:35.69 placing her at #3 on the all time top 10 and #8 in the SCIAC.

On the Men's side:

Sophomore, Alex Lapides recorded a PR in the 400m with a time of 50.72 which is currently the 5th fastest time SCIAC. Lapides also cleared 6'- 4 3/4" in the High jump placing him in the #3 on the Caltech all-time top 10 and #2 in SCIAC.
Freshman, Luis Guerra recorded a season PR in the 100m with a time of 11.93
Senior, Seth Hendrickson recorded a season PR in the 100m with a time of 11.91

The team will now prepare for the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on April 4^th while Alex Lapides (400m and High Jump) and Will Gibson (400m Hurdles) will be competing on March 28^th in the Cal/Nevada Championships at UCLA.
