School Record and P.R's in First SCIAC Competition

CLAREMONT, CA – The Beavers track and field squad participated in their first of three SCIAC meets on Saturday afternoon at Pomona-Pitzer.

Several notable efforts highlighted the meet as more than a handful of personal bests were established.

A handful of top marks by the women nearly led them to a win over Whittier but the Poets prevailed by just eight points, 63-55.

Paige Logan's effort in the hammer throw set the school record. Last season Logan set the school record of 138'3" before breaking that mark by three inches on Saturday to win the event. The senior also recorded the top shot put throw of the day with a distance of 37'8 3/4". She came up less than three feet short in the discus throw with a top distance of 111'1".

In the javelin throw Bridget Connor set a personal best mark while moving up to fourth on Caltech's all-time top 10 list. The junior's throw of 102'7" was good enough for third on Saturday and just over five feet from the top spot. Her pole vault of 8' 5 1/4" tied for the top height and moved her to seventh best ever in Beaver history.

Two other ladies set personal best marks. Alice Michel ran the 1500 meter race in 5:47.69 while Gauri Shastri continued to improve in the triple jump (26' 4 1/4").

During the men's meet several top times were posted on the track. Adithya Bhagavathi nearly went under four-minutes in the 1500 race for the first time as he crossed the finish line in 4:03.32. The junior also set a personal best in the 800 meter race (2:02.67).

Jared Forte also set two career bests mark in the same races. He ran the 1500 meter in 4:19.43 while clocking a time of 2:05.01 in the 800 meter event. Juan Adame posted a time of 16:56.41 which represented his best effort ever for the senior at that distance.

In the sprints Victor Duan set two personal best marks as he ran the 100 meter (11.93) and 200 meter (24.17) races better than ever before. Rounding out the personal best marks on the track was Anand Poozhikunnel's effort in the 400 meter hurdles (62.67).

Anup Kishore represented the field event competitors with a personal best jump of 37' 10 3/4" in the triple jump.
