Logan Wins Conference Title; Four Beavers Earn All-Conference Honors

LOS ANGELES – Performing in their final team event of the track and field season at the SCIAC Championships, Caltech recorded a conference champion while three other individuals earned all-league honors.

Paige Logan won the shot put title with a top throw of 41' 5".  Heading into her sixth and final attempt, Logan unleashed her best throw to claim the title. The senior won the title over La Verne's Brianna Panapa (40' 4").  She is the first Caltech student-athlete to win a track & field individual title since Alex Lepides won the high jump championship in 2011. Furthermore, Logan is the first female to take top honors in an event since Cailin Henderson's victory in the 3000 meter run in 1997.

Logan also earned a podium finish in the hammer throw competition with a top throw of 140'3" to earn third place, and an all-conference nod, in the 18-person field. The senior single handedly scored enough points for the Beavers to best Chapman in the event ending standings.

Eric Martin earned all-conference honors during the 800 meter race. The junior ran the two lap race in 1:53.71 in posting his first all-league accolades. Martin's time is the second fastest in school history; second only to Alan Kleinsasser's time of 1:50.74 set in 1974.

William Hoza and Anup Kishore also earned all-conference spots as they finished fifth and sixth respectively. Hoza top clearance came at 12'6" while Kishore best effort cleared the bar at 11' 6 1/4". It is the first time both have earned all-league accolades.

Stephanie Reynolds finished in the top 12 (out of 43) during the preliminary rounds of the 1500 meter run to qualify for the finals. The juniors top time of the weekend was 5:00.25.

In the men's race Aditya Bhagavathi also earned a spot in the finals of the 1500. During the final race he ran the sixth fastest time in school history as the junior crossed the finish line in 4:00.61.

Michael Ignatowich ran the best 3000 meter steeplechase of his career to end his brief but successful two-year tenure with the program. The graduate student completed the race in 9:54.31 to give the Beavers a team point while running the fourth best time in school history.
