Track & Field Closes Curtain on Successful 2014-15

REDLANDS, Calif. (May 18, 2015) – The Caltech track & field teams closed the curtain on the 2014-15 Beavers' competition with some meaningful final performances at the Redlands Last Chance Qualifier on Thursday and Friday.

Senior Victor Duan (Darien, Ill. / Illinois Math and Science Acad.) made the most of his final two opportunities in a Caltech uniform, setting new personal bests in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash as he dropped .13 (11.52) and .11 (23.76), respectively.  Freshman Alex Bourzutschky (Potomac, Md. / Montgomery Blair) ran well to set a solid foundation heading into next year as the versatile rookie shaved more than half a second in his 200m to get under the 24-second mark for the first time (23.93) and repeated the feat to place fourth with an impressive 53.89 in the 400-meter dash.

Sophomore Jordan Bonilla (Weston, Fla. / Cypress Bay) highlighted Caltech's performances with a big hammer throw of 123 feet, nine inches to climb up to sixth place on the all-time program records list.  In the same event, junior Morgan Hill (San Diego, Calif. / Wasatch Acad.) came within 13 inches of his career-best throw with a season-high mark of 125 feet, one inch.

This caps a successful season for Head Coach Ben Raphelson and the Beavers.  Caltech took major strides forward this spring as several Beavers broke program records and improved their position on the all-time lists, while the men's team recorded its first dual meet victory since 2011 over Chapman University and junior Aditya Bhagavathi (West Windsor, N.J. / West Windsor-Plainsboro North) claimed the first individual men's SCIAC title since 2011 and the first for a runner since 2008.
