FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Feb. 3, 2019) – Several members of the Caltech men's indoor track & field team made successful debuts when the Beavers competed at the Northern Arizona University-hosted Mountain T's Invitational over the weekend.
Freshman Shri Deshmukh (Montgomery, N.J. / Montgomery) picked up a massive career-best time in the 200m (24.15), beating out his best time in high school by more than half a second. That same event also saw junior Jesse Cai (McLean, Va. / Thomas Jefferson Science and Technology) run a 23.55 to clip his time at last year's Mountain T's by less than a tenth while freshman Jerome Seebeck (Chicago, Ill. / Walter Payton College Prep) made his Caltech debut with a 23.23. Deshmukh also ran the 60m dash, where he crossed the finish line in 7.49 while Seebeck finished in 7.42.
Meanwhile, freshman Peter Kulits (Everett, Wash. / King's) made his debut in the triple jump where he competed against competition across all three NCAA divisions. Kulits made the finals and went on to finish eighth overall with a best mark of 13.28/43'7. Junior Alex Lettenberger (Glen Ellyn, Ill. / Glenbard West) competed in the pole vault where he managed to hit career-best heights, including a 10' 2" on his best jump, while sophomore Daniel Rostovtsev (Swarthmore, Pa. / Strath Haven) competed in the weight throw.
"It was great to see this group's hard work pay off with several promising early-season marks," Head Coach Ben Raphelson said. "They're all eager to build on their performances as outdoors gets underway."
Raphelson and the Beavers will now turn their full attention toward the outdoor season, where they will begin at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers meet at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16.
