PASADENA (Jan. 18, 2018) – Junior center Elizabeth Eiden (White Plains, N.Y. / Holy Child) followed up a dominant game against the University of La Verne by posting on of Caltech women's basketball's two highest point totals at California Lutheran University on Wednesday evening.
Eiden scored 12 points in 38 minutes of action, with half of her points coming in the first quarter. She also added seven rebounds and four blocks to maintain her current pace as the SCIAC blocks leader. Three of the center's blocks came in the third quarter. Sophomore guard Grace Peng (San Ramon, Calif. / California) matched Eiden with 12 points to go with three assists and fellow sophomore Samantha D'Costa (San Jose, Calif. / St. Francis) picked up her third consecutive double-double game with 10 points and 10 rebounds to give her seven double-double games on the year.
Caltech had its moments against a more experienced and deeper Cal Lutheran team, particularly early. The Beavers went shot-for-shot with the Regals and concluded the period on an Eiden layup on a dish from Peng to put her team down by just one point heading into the second quarter. The visitors kept pace in the first half of the second quarter as well, bringing the game to 19-all with five minutes to go in the frame.
Head Coach Bridgette Reyes and the Beavers will head to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday, Jan. 20 for their second meeting with the Athenas. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
