LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (Nov. 25, 2018) – Junior guard Samantha D'Costa (San Jose, Calif. / St. Francis) has been named SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week for her contributions to the Caltech women's basketball team's two-win week, part of the program's greatest start to a season ever.
The junior began the week with a strong double-double to lead the Beavers to a 68-49 victory over the University of Dallas. D'Costa's 21 points, 13 rebounds and five assists provided her team with more than enough ammunition to take down the Crusaders. D'Costa had statistically the best game of her career against Carleton College at the UCSC Thanksgiving Classic over the weekend when she scored a team-best 17 points to go with 11 rebounds, eight assists and 14 attempted free throws. The junior had a third standout showing when she helped her team to a 71-63 win over Lewis & Clark Colleges. D'Costa scored 19 points in the win, and also had seven rebounds. All in all, the junior guard averaged 19 points per game and added 31 total rebounds and 15 assists over the three-game week.
D'Costa, along with teammate Elizabeth Eiden (White Plains, N.Y. / Holy Child) made up two-fifths of the UCSC Thanksgiving Classic all-tournament team, as announced following Sunday's game.
D'Costa and the Beavers will next take the floor on Wednesday, Nov. 28 when they host California Lutheran University at 7 p.m. in the SCIAC opener.
