Haleftiras Receives Ed Baldwin Sportsmanship Award

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (Feb. 20, 2019) – Senior guard Nika Haleftiras (San Diego, Calif. / Our Lady of Peace) of the Caltech women's basketball team has been named as this year's recipient of the SCIAC's Ed Baldwin Sportsmanship Award.

The senior is the first Caltech player to win the award since Bridget Connor '15. Haleftiras is one of the Beavers' top defenders, usually tasked with guarding the opposing team's best player during each game. As a team captain and Caltech's leading charge-taker, Haleftiras showed a readiness and willingness to do whatever her team needed of her at all times. Haleftiras always showed opponents and SCIAC rivals proper respect on the court as evidenced through her actions on the court.

Haleftiras finishes her Caltech career as the program's all-time leading assist getter and averaged at least 10 points per game for the first time as a senior (10.8). The captain averaged 8.0 points per game, 2.6 assists per game and 3.3 rebounds per game over the course of her four-year career.
