CLAREMONT, CA - Senior Rebekah Kitto's illustrious tenure with the Caltech women's tennis team came to a close on Thursday afternoon at the NCAA tennis championships.
Kitto fell to Jenny Liles from Sewanee 6-1, 6-2 in the first round of the singles tournament.
Liles jumped out a to a 3-0 lead to start the match. Kitto held serve to make the score 3-1 after four games but Liles responded by winning the final three games.
The second frame started well for Kitto as she won the opening game. Liles, who came into the match with a 19-0 record in dual matches, won two straight to jump in front 2-1. However, Kitto responded by winning the fourth game of the set to tie the stanza at two games each. The final four games could have gone either way but ultimately Liles was able to convert her opportunities.
Kitto ends her career in a Beaver uniform with 53 dual match wins to her credit; the most in school history. She also holds the school record for most wins in a single season (19). In addition to her school records, she was named to the SCIAC's all-conference first-team four times.
Furthermore, Kitto is one of just two Caltech female student-athletes to compete in back-to-back NCAA Championships (Laura Decker – Fencing).
