LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (May 4, 2018) – Juniors Kana Moriyama (Redmond, Wash. / Redmond) and Julia Reisler (Plano, Texas / Greenhill) of the Caltech women's tennis team have garnered All-SCIAC honors after a pair of standout seasons. The honor marks Moriyama's second First Team All-SCIAC appearance in as many years and Reisler's first conference recognition since making Second Team All-SCIAC as a freshman in 2015-16.
Moriyama, the 19th-ranked player in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association West Region, had eight wins all out of the top singles spot but perhaps had her greatest moments of the season at the 118th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament. Moriyama made it to the singles semis and had to get through Reisler to do so, but also entered the doubles tournament seeded second along with freshman partner Sarina Liu (Rolling Hills, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula). The duo responded with a run to the doubles championship, validating themselves as the region's 14th-ranked doubles team. Reisler, who also came away with eight wins, had some success of her own at Ojai, winning her first match handily before upsetting the tournament's second-seeded player from Occidental College to set up the quarterfinal showdown with Moriyama.
The women's team secured a fifth-place conference finish with three of its seven wins coming against SCIAC teams.
