PASADENA (Aug. 20, 2018) – Caltech women's tennis has released its schedule for the 2019 season, which will include 12 home matches and five road matches in addition to the 119th annual Ojai Valley Tournament in late April of next year. The women are set to take on a challenging schedule this year that will feature all but five meetings against nationally-ranked teams, including eight in the top-25 as they look to leverage themselves back into the national rankings.
The Beavers will open the season with three days at the ITA Oracle Cup in Claremont, Calif. beginning on Friday, Sept. 28 and extending through the weekend. Caltech will then travel to Cal State Los Angeles the following week for an exhibition match, the team's final taste of competition until February. The women's team will begin the regular season with a tough February, beginning on Saturday the ninth against defending SCIAC champion No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in Pasadena. One week later, Caltech will travel to SCIAC runner-up, No. 7 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges. Two days later, the Beavers will begin their non-league schedule when they host No. 21 Brandeis University on Monday, Feb. 18 at 10 a.m. Caltech will end the month on a two-match road trip in the Pacific Northwest, starting with No. 25 Linfield College on Saturday, Feb. 23, followed by No. 27 Whitman College the next day.
Caltech will play the month of March exclusively on home soil and open the month on Sunday the third against a familiar foe in No. 24 Christopher Newport University at 2 p.m. The Beavers will host Rhodes College at 3 p.m. two days later, and then No. 19 Mary Washington University on Friday the eighth at 3 p.m. No. 29 Vassar College will then pay a visit to Pasadena on Tuesday, Mar. 12 before Bowdoin College comes to town on Thursday, Mar. 14 at 3 p.m. The Beavers will host Colby College on Monday, Mar. 25 at 2 p.m. before turning around the next day to host 11th-ranked MIT at 10 a.m. Caltech closes March hosting No. 26 University of Redlands at 10 a.m. on the 30th.
April will feature four more matches exclusively against SCIAC teams. Caltech will host California Lutheran University on Apr. 5 before traveling to Occidental College the next day. The annual Senior Day and Orange Out match will take place on Saturday, Apr. 13 against No. 31 Chapman University. Last year's Orange Out resulted in a 9-0 win over Oxy, and this year's team will look for a similar results against a tough Panthers team. The women's tennis team's final match of the season will take place on Saturday, Apr. 20 at Whittier College. Head Coach Mandy Gamble and the Beavers return to Ventura for the 119th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament from Thursday, Apr. 25 to Sunday, Apr. 28 before the SCIAC Championships the following weekend, hosted by the conference's top two seeds upon the season's completion.
