PASADENA (Apr. 11, 2019) – The Caltech women's tennis team broke the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's top-20 rankings for the first time ever this week, coming in 18th for the highest national ranking in program history.
In addition to moving up two spots in the national rankings and becoming the first Caltech tennis team, men's or women's to be ranked inside the Top 20, the women also received a one-spot bump in the regional rankings and now sit third in the West only behind SCIAC powerhouses No. 2 Claremont Mudd-Scripps Colleges and No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges. The Beavers currently sit third in the SCIAC and would play the Sagehens in a 2-3 playoff matchup if the season were to end today.
Additionally, Caltech's ranked singles players received a slight bump in the regional rankings. Senior Kana Moriyama (Redmond, Wash. / Redmond) moved up one spot from 15th to 14th in the West region while freshman teammate Anna Tifrea (Fullerton, Calif. / Troy) advanced from 20th to 17th.
Head Coach Mandy Gamble and the Beavers will return to action on Senior Day, Saturday, Apr. 13 to host Chapman University at 10 a.m. as they look to avenge a big defeat from last year.
