Women's Tennis Finishes with Highest Year-End Ranking

PASADENA (June 5, 2019) – The Caltech women's tennis team have concluded the year with the highest year-end national ranking in the history of the men's and women's tennis programs, coming in at 21 in the final ITA rankings of the 2018-19 season. The Beavers are also ranked third in the west region, securing their highest finish in the regional rankings ever.

Senior Kana Moriyama (Redmond, Wash. / Redmond), this year's Ojai singles champion, finished her career on a high note, ranked as the 41st-best singles player in Division III. The senior also finished the year ranked 9th in the west region, sixth among SCIAC players and eighth in the regional doubles rankings alongside sophomore partner Sarina Liu (Rolling Hills, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula). Freshman Anna Tifrea joined Moriyama in the regional singles rankings, finishing the year ranked 17th in the west and eighth among SCIAC competitors. This year marks the first time the women's tennis team has had multiple players ranked among the SCIAC's top-10 regional players in recent memory.
