Volleyball Enjoys the Thrill of Victory
After experiencing the agony of defeat in three previous attempts versus West Coast Baptist, Coach Maureen Burl and company enjoyed the sweet sweet taste and thrill of victory at home with a five game match win over the visiting Eagles of West Coast Baptist College of Lancaster, CA. The Beavers fell in first game 20-25 and then took games #2 and #3 by scores of 25-14: 25-21 only to stumble again in a close game #4 21-25. The stage was set for the fifth and final game of the match where Caltech gutted it out and finished off West Coast 16-14. These two teams have met on four occasions this season with West Coast winning all three prior matches. "This is a very rewarding experience for everyone in our volleyball program" commented Coach Burl.
Leading the way for the Beavers were junior, Lisa Yee with
17 Kills and sophmore, Katie Peters with 13 Kills,
this dynamic pair also led in Digs with 12 and 11
respectively.
Up next for Caltech is a rare morning road contest at SCIAC
and national powerhouse #3 University of La Verne (19-2)
where the Beavers play on Saturday, 11/1 at 11:30AM.
Then home to wrap-up the final week of the 2008 season with
Pomona Pitzer on 11/4; Whittier College on 11/6 both at
7:30pm and then the annual Alumnae contest on 11/8 at 2pm.
