Vetrivel Extends Aces Streak vs. No. 2 CMS
PASADENA, Calif. (Sept. 30, 2016) – Sophomore Sakthi Vetrivel (Redmond, Wash. / Overlake School) recorded two service aces for the third straight match as Caltech volleyball hosted No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Friday night.
The motivated Beavers started the match strong, scoring the first two points and trading points through a 9-9 tie.  A CMS kill keyed a run of eight unanswered points to propel the Athenas to a 17-9 lead, but Caltech kept fighting and trimmed the deficit back to two at 19-17 before falling, 25-19.

After the hard-fought first set, the Beavers came out a bit flat in the second set, giving away three of the Athenas' first five points and going down 25-13.  CMS closed the night with a 25-12 victory in the third set.

Freshman Alexa Lauinger(Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon) led the team in kills (six) and digs (nine) while fellow freshman  Lauren Li(Bellaire, Texas / Bellaire) was the second-leading scorer with five kills and eight digs.

Head Coach Tom Gardner and the Beavers will host Occidental College (5-9 overall, 2-4 SCIAC)  on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m.
