Pasadena, Calif. (Oct. 1, 2016) –Freshman Alexa Lauinger(Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon) recorded her fifth double-double of the season as Caltech volleyball fell to Occidental College on Saturday afternoon.

Lauinger tallied 11 kills on a .184 hitting percentage and added 12 digs while classmate Lauren Li (Bellaire, Texas / Bellaire) tallied seven kills without a single error for a .350 hitting percentage and her second straight match over .300.  Rookie Ellie Walker(Minneapolis, Minn. / Blake School)set for 16 assists and rookie Mei-Ling Laures(Chicago, Ill. / British Int'l School) had a career-high three service aces over the match.

The Tigers came out firing in the set to take a 14-3 and maintained control to a 25-12 victory. The Beavers still took some time to get going in the second, giving up the first five points, but Caltech soon roared back with four unanswered points to take an 8-7 lead.  The set remained close through 20-18, at which point Oxy called a timeout to regain composure and took five of the final six points for the win.
Caltech came out rejuvenated for the third set, tying the game at 4-4 and staying within three points early.  Oxy went on to build up a seven-point lead that proved too much to overcome and closed the match with a 25-15 win.

Head Coach Tom Gardner and the Beavers travel to La Verne to take on the Leopards (11-4 overall, 5-2 SCIAC)  on Tuesday, Oct. 4  at 7 p.m.
