PASADENA, Calif. (Oct. 21, 2016) – Freshman Alexa Lauinger (Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon) was just shy of her seventh double-double on the season, tallying nine kills and 11 digs in the Caltech volleyball team's defeat against the University of Redlands on Friday night.

Lauinger's performance marked her third straight match with at least five kills, while she also led the team with a .062 hitting percentage. Freshman Ellie Walker (Minneapolis, Minn. / Blake School) improves her double-digit assists streak to nine matches while classmate  Lauren Li (Bellaire, Texas / Bellaire) barely saw her nine-match streak with at least five kills end as she recorded four, along with seven digs.

The visitors stormed out of the gates, scoring six unanswered points until a kill by Lauinger put Caltech on the scoreboard.  The Beavers showed signs of hope, cutting the deficit to four, but it wasn't enough. On two separate occasions, the Bulldogs went on four-point runs, increasing their lead and taking the first set, 25-13.  The Bulldogs carried their momentum right through the remaining two sets, beating the Beavers 25-13 and 25-8.
Head Coach Tom Gardner and the Beavers travel to Chapman University (10-12, 5-8) on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 4 p.m.
